As I continue with my studies and professional career I will continue to explore being a good global citizen and taking the necessary steps to listen and think to communities and people different from me before acting as inputs from those different from you are extremely important and impactful.

This program was different from other educational or travel experiences I’ve had….Unlike those trips, I got to really immerse myself in the work and interact with children and volunteers in a meaningful way, not just visit or observe. This program has been one of the most influential things in my career. I’ve always been interested in pursuing global health and using my skills and knowledge as a physician to serve on a global scale. This trip taught me so much about the culture and health systems in both Uganda and Rwanda. I have learned so much that I’ll be able to take with me back home and into my future career.

This experience really helped further my cross-cultural communication skills. Learning about Rwandan culture throughout the experience and then problem-solving with students from around Africa was a really cool test of those new skills.
